Paper 1, Paper 2, Paper 3
Revise: Photographs, Sketches and Cross-SectionsA satellite image can reveal broad patterns, such as cloud cover, vegetation, settlement or geographical phenomena affecting a large area. Check its date, resolution and legend. Some images use false colours to highlight particular features, so colour alone is not enough to identify them: decode it using the supplied key.
Specification 4.8 · Paper 2
An image of the Earth's surface recorded by a sensor on a satellite.
Satellite images show physical changes, not directly the income, employment security or quality of life of residents.

GIS allows satellite images, historic maps and other spatial information to be displayed as layers covering the same locations. Comparing layers from different dates can reveal where the built-up edge has moved, where gaps have filled in and where land use has changed.
