Much of their rural-to-urban movement had occurred during earlier industrialisation. Their urban share has generally increased more slowly since then, partly because a large proportion of their population already lives in towns and cities. Some people have also moved out of cities into rural settlements: counter-urbanisation.

When comparing trends, compare the same feature in both groups, such as their starting levels, speed of change or timing of industrialisation.

Link each cause to a resource and a mechanism, rather than simply listing population growth, affluence, urbanisation and industrialisation.
