Revise: Coastal Physical ProcessesJoints are cracks without significant displacement; faults are fractures along which rock has moved. Both provide weaknesses that water can enter and waves can exploit. Hydraulic action and abrasion can enlarge these weaknesses into caves, even in otherwise resistant headlands.
