Revise: Human Impact on CoastsCoastal recession is the inland movement of the coastline caused by erosion. It can happen gradually, or abruptly when a landslide removes a large section of cliff. The land loss is permanent: buildings, fields or roads cannot remain in their original positions once the supporting land has disappeared.
