Revise: Finishes and TreatmentsPolishing smooths the metal itself rather than covering it with another material. Progressively finer abrasives remove surface marks and reduce the scratches left by earlier, coarser abrasives. A smooth surface reflects light more evenly, producing a bright or mirror-like appearance.
