Gel coat

A GRP product can also have a pigmented gel coat: a smooth outer resin layer. For a boat hull, this provides an even coloured outer surface. Where resin is coloured through its depth, a shallow scratch is less likely to reveal a contrasting colour beneath, unlike a scratch through surface paint.
