Revise: Decorative Textile Treatments and TechniquesCouching creates a raised line by laying thick yarn or cord on the fabric and securing it with smaller stitches. The thick material stays on the surface instead of being repeatedly pulled through the fabric.

After moulding, smooth couching felts support the wet pulp during pressing. Their surface matters: a textured cloth or one with small holes can spoil the paper’s appearance. Cloths measuring 34 cm by 25 cm provide a margin around an A4 sheet.
