Software that translates source code into a form that can be executed, such as a compiler or interpreter.
Say that a translator converts source code into machine code, not simply that it ‘makes the code work’.
Distinguish translation from execution: a translator converts code into a form that can be executed; the run-time environment allows the program to run.
