Revise: Human Endocrine SystemA particular hormone produces an effect in a target organ: an organ that responds to that hormone. Although the blood distributes the hormone widely, not every organ responds to it.

An organ containing cells that respond to a particular hormone.
Revise: Hormones and Metabolic RateThe hormone changes the activity of particular responsive cells in its target organs. This connects a signal produced in one part of the body with a response elsewhere. For example, TSH travels from the pituitary gland to the thyroid gland and stimulates it to produce thyroxine.
When describing hormonal coordination, give the complete route: endocrine gland → hormone released into the blood → target organ → effect.
For hormone transport, state that an endocrine gland releases the hormone into the bloodstream, which carries it to its target organ.
