Revise: Transverse and Longitudinal WavesThe medium moves locally as the wave passes, but it does not travel along with the wave from source to receiver. Its particles oscillate, meaning that they move repeatedly back and forth about their rest positions. This gives us two different directions to consider: the direction of the oscillations and the direction in which the wave transfers energy.
- Revise: Generation and Absorption of Electromagnetic Waves
A repeated change or back-and-forth movement about a central position.
