The temperature at which a substance changes between solid and liquid: melting on heating and freezing on cooling.
Revise: States of MatterAt the melting point, energy transferred to a solid allows its particles to overcome enough of the attractions holding them in fixed positions. They can move past one another, forming a liquid. They are still close together: melting does not produce the widely separated particles of a gas.
