Revise: Legionary Organization and the Legionary FortressBelow fleet level, a nauarch commanded a squadron, while a trierarch commanded an individual ship. Squadrons may have contained about ten ships, but their size is not securely fixed. The useful distinction is between responsibility for the whole fleet, a group of ships and a single vessel.
