Paper 5
Revise: Legionary Organization and the Legionary FortressTen such groups formed a century, normally containing 80 men. A centurion led the century and maintained its discipline.
A century normally contained 80 men, not 100. Distinguish an ordinary cohort from the larger first cohort.
Distinguish naval command levels: a fleet prefect commanded a fleet, a nauarch commanded a squadron, and a trierarch commanded a ship. A ship's crew could be organised as a century without containing exactly 80 men.
