Revise: Legionary Organization and the Legionary FortressIn the Imperial period, a legion was a large body of heavily armed Roman citizen infantry. Its strength depended on more than the number of soldiers: men were organised into smaller groups with their own officers, shared accommodation and clear responsibilities. Orders could therefore pass through an established structure rather than being given separately to thousands of individuals.
