Revise: Photosynthesis ReactionGlucose and oxygen are the products, so they appear on the right. The arrow means “reacts to form”; it does not mean that the reaction readily runs backwards.
Specification 1.7, 6.2 · Paper 1, Paper 2
A substance formed by a chemical reaction and released from an enzyme's active site.
Revise: Mechanism of Enzyme ActionWhile the substrate is held at the active site, the enzyme catalyses its conversion into one or more products.
A substance formed by a chemical reaction.
Specification B1.4b · Paper 1 (Foundation), Paper 3 (Higher)
A substance formed by a chemical reaction.
Revise: Process of photosynthesisLight and chlorophyll are therefore commonly written over the reaction arrow rather than on either side of the equation: they enable the process but are not listed as its reactants or products.
Write the substances in the correct direction: carbon dioxide and water are reactants; glucose and oxygen are products.
For a mechanism question, give the sequence: substrate binds, enzyme–substrate complex forms, reaction occurs, products leave and the enzyme can be reused.
Do not say that the enzyme is used up or becomes part of the products.
