A control process in which a change triggers a response that opposes that change.
Revise: Blood Glucose ControlInsulin and glucagon have opposing effects: insulin lowers a high concentration, whereas glucagon raises a low one. This is negative feedback because each response opposes the change that triggered it. As blood glucose returns towards its usual range, the stimulus for that hormone's release is reduced; the two hormones do not simply switch on at one exact concentration.
- Revise: Kidney Function and Water Control
