A hormone released by the pancreas when blood glucose is too high; it promotes glucose uptake by cells and storage of excess glucose as glycogen.
Revise: Blood Glucose ControlWhen blood glucose is too high, the pancreas releases insulin. Insulin causes glucose to move from the blood into body cells. In liver and muscle cells, excess glucose is converted into glycogen, a stored carbohydrate.
