1.1.e. Effects of exercise on body systems
• Understand the long-term physiological adaptations and training effects of regular exercise on bodily systems. • Describe skeletal and muscular adaptations, including increased bone density, muscular hypertrophy, improved muscular strength and endurance, and increased overall resistance to fatigue. • Explain cardiovascular adaptations, including cardiac hypertrophy, decreased resting heart rate, increased resting stroke volume, alterations in cardiac output, and improved rates of recovery. • Explain respiratory and systemic adaptations, including an increase in aerobic capacity, strengthening of respiratory muscles, increased tidal volume and minute volume during maximal exercise, and enhanced capillarisation. • Apply knowledge of these long-term adaptations to practical scenarios in physical activity and sport. • Collect, interpret, and evaluate quantitative data relating to the long-term training effects of exercise.
