When choosing a sampling method, explain why it suits the target population and research aim, then consider access, resources and representativeness. Random selection does not guarantee a representative sample.
A random sample gives each member an equal chance of selection; it does not guarantee a representative final sample, especially if people refuse to participate.
Random sampling reduces researcher selection bias, but an incomplete sampling frame or non-response can still make the resulting sample unrepresentative.

Revise: Sampling TechniquesA sociologist researching pupils’ experiences of school usually cannot question every pupil they are interested in. Instead, they select a sample: a smaller group who take part in the research. The target population is the whole group the researcher wants to study.
