Leading questions can steer respondents towards an expected response, while the interview situation may encourage socially desirable answers.

Leading questions, interviewer effects and social desirability bias can still reduce validity. Building trust, conducting interviews and analysing detailed accounts take time, so samples are often small and generalisation is limited.
