Incomplete disclosure

Definition

Withholding some information about a study. This is not necessarily deception, but becomes deceptive when it intentionally misleads participants about an important aspect of the research.

Incomplete disclosure means withholding some information. Explaining a study truthfully in general terms without describing every technical detail need not mislead participants. However, secretly recording an interview would conceal something important to their decision about taking part.
