Revise: Synagogue FeaturesThe Ark, or Aron Hakodesh, holds the Torah scrolls. It is normally positioned on the wall towards Jerusalem and forms a focal point for worship. Its name recalls the Ark of the Covenant, which held the tablets of the commandments given to Moses.

The Ark, or Aron Hakodesh, is the holy cabinet containing the Torah scrolls. It is normally placed on the side of the prayer hall towards Jerusalem, so worshippers can face towards the site of the Temple during prayer. Facing Jerusalem connects a local congregation with Jewish history and the wider Jewish people; it does not mean that God is present only in that city.
