The imam’s authority rests on religious knowledge and the ability to guide others, rather than being a divinely appointed, infallible successor to Muhammad. Leading worship does not make the imam divine or an object of worship.

The Six Beliefs, also called the six articles of faith, describe fundamental Muslim beliefs about Allah, his guidance and humanity’s ultimate destiny. They are particularly associated with Sunni Islam, where accepting all six is a foundation of faith. They are also known as Iman al-Mufassal, meaning a detailed statement of faith.
