Perkei Avot, also spelt Pirkei Avot, is a collection of ethical teachings in the Mishnah. In 2:2, Rabban Gamaliel, the son of Rabbi Judah the Prince, teaches: ‘Great is study of the Torah when combined with a worldly occupation.’ He explains that effort in both study and work helps put sin out of mind.
