Gemara

The Gemara contains discussions and commentary on the Mishnah. Together, they preserve both practical guidance and the reasoning and disagreements through which rabbis explored the law.

The Gemara contains later rabbinic discussion and commentary on the Mishnah. Together, they form the Talmud. There are Jerusalem and Babylonian versions; the Babylonian Talmud is the more comprehensive and is usually meant when someone refers simply to ‘the Talmud’.
