Panj Piare

Five came forward. He initiated them as the Panj Piare, the ‘Five Beloved Ones’, forming the beginning of the Khalsa: a community of committed, initiated Sikhs. He established the distinctive discipline associated with the Five Ks and the names Singh for men and Kaur for women.

Five volunteers showed their willingness to offer their lives for their faith. They became the Panj Piare, the ‘five beloved ones’, and were the first members initiated into the Khalsa.
