Revise: Birth and Naming CeremoniesNaam Karan means the name-giving ceremony. The family takes the baby to the gurdwara, the Sikh place of worship, where relatives and the sangat, or congregation, share in the celebration.

Revise: CeremoniesThe name-giving ceremony is called Naam Karan. It usually takes place at a gurdwara, the Sikh place of worship, when the family is ready to attend with the baby. Family members join the sangat, or congregation, in thanksgiving and prayer.
Do not give a fixed compulsory date for Naam Karan. The Sikh Rehat Maryada links its timing to the mother’s recovery.
Do not confuse Naam Karan with Amrit Sanskar: naming a baby does not initiate the child into the Khalsa.
