Revise: HajjPilgrims prepare through ritual washing and prayer and enter the sacred state of ihram. Men wear two plain white cloths; women wear modest clothing. The simplicity of pilgrims’ dress helps reduce visible differences of wealth and status.

The sacred state pilgrims enter before performing Hajj; the word also refers to the simple garments worn by male pilgrims.
