The first book of the Torah, containing accounts of the creation of the universe and human beings.
Revise: Jewish Creation Beliefs and Scientific ExplanationsThe creation accounts appear in Genesis, the first book of the Torah. For religious Jews, these accounts are important because they explain the world's relationship with God, not simply because they describe its beginnings.
When using Genesis 1:1–3 or John 1:1–3, explain how the passage supports the belief rather than leaving a quotation unexplained.
Explain why Christians interpret Genesis differently: their views about the Bible lead to different readings of the creation accounts.
Distinguish the two accounts: Genesis 1 presents an ordered creation over six days; Genesis 2 focuses on humanity, companionship and responsibility for the garden.
