Revise: Drug Treatments and PsychotherapyAntipsychotic medication reduces dopamine’s action, commonly by blocking dopamine D2 receptors on the postsynaptic neuron. Dopamine then has less effect on the receiving neuron, reducing excessive signalling.
Distinguish blocking receptors from blocking reuptake: antipsychotics reduce dopamine’s action at receptors, whereas SSRIs keep serotonin available in the synaptic gap for longer.
