A rule for finding the magnetic-field direction around a current-carrying wire: point the right thumb along the conventional current and the curled fingers show the field direction.
Use the right-hand grip rule. Grip the wire with your right hand so that your thumb points in the direction of conventional current. The way your fingers curl gives the direction of the magnetic-field loops.
Apply the right-hand grip rule using conventional current, from positive to negative. A dot means current out of the page; a cross means current into the page.
Use conventional current, not electron flow, when applying the right-hand grip rule.
