Negative charge

Matter contains positive and negative charge. Protons in atomic nuclei are positively charged, while electrons are negatively charged. An uncharged object has equal total positive and negative charge, so its overall charge is zero.

An uncharged, or electrically neutral, material has equal total amounts of positive and negative charge, so these charges balance and its overall charge is zero.
