Revise: Internal energyHeating transfers energy into a system because there is a temperature difference. This increases the energy stored by its particles and therefore increases the system’s internal energy.

Revise: Ways of Changing EnergyThe heating element’s thermal store increases, and it then transfers energy by heating to the water. One device can therefore involve more than one pathway in sequence.

Revise: Heating a systemHeating is therefore an energy-transfer process, not something stored inside the material.
Do not say that heating always raises temperature. It may instead produce a change of state.
Do not describe electricity or heating as energy stores: they describe ways energy is transferred.
When explaining a flat section of a heating curve, state where the transferred energy goes: it increases the particles’ potential energy as forces of attraction are overcome.
