Paper 1, Paper 2
A device that produces a potential difference when a magnet and a coil of wire move relative to one another, transferring energy mechanically into an electrical pathway.
Revise: Methods of Generation and the National GridIn most power stations, this happens in a generator, where a magnet and a coil of wire move relative to one another. The generator therefore needs something to make it rotate.
Describe the full sequence from fission to electricity: reactor heat → steam → turbine → generator.
Do not say that steam generates electricity directly: it turns the turbine, which drives the generator.
When asked to compare methods, give a similarity as well as differences: for example, wind and fossil-fuel stations both turn a generator, but wind turns the turbine directly whereas a typical fossil-fuel station first produces steam.
