Revise: Force and Change in MomentumThis is why car safety features such as seat belts and crumple zones are useful. A passenger must still lose their momentum and come to rest, but these features increase the time over which the change occurs. The rate of change of momentum is then smaller, so the average force on the passenger is reduced.
