Reducing the volume occupied by a gas.
Revise: Pressure in gasesIf the gas is compressed, the same molecules occupy less space. They strike the walls more frequently, increasing the force per unit area and hence the pressure. This explains why pressure rises during compression, provided the temperature is kept constant.
- Revise: Increasing the pressure of a gas
A reduction in the volume occupied by a gas as an external force pushes its boundary inwards.
- Revise: Transverse and longitudinal waves
A region of a longitudinal wave where the particles of the medium are closer together than usual.
