Revise: Red-shiftThe Big Bang theory proposes that it began from a very small region that was extremely hot and dense. Red-shift supports this model because the observed expansion is what the model leads us to expect; red-shift is not a direct photograph of the beginning.

Revise: Theories of Universe OriginThe Big Bang theory also describes an expanding Universe, but traces it back to an extremely hot, dense state about 13.8 billion years ago. As the Universe expanded, it cooled. Matter later gathered under gravity to form stars and galaxies.

When asked why the Big Bang theory is accepted, compare the evidence: red-shift is consistent with both an expanding Big Bang universe and the Steady State model, whereas the cosmic microwave background strongly supports the Big Bang model and is not satisfactorily explained by Steady State.
Do not write that the Big Bang theory has been proved. Say that it is the currently accepted model because it fits more of the observed evidence.
