The theory that the Universe has always existed and remains broadly the same on a large scale over time, despite expanding, because new matter is continuously created.
Revise: Theories of Universe OriginThe Steady State theory, developed by Fred Hoyle, Hermann Bondi and Thomas Gold, proposed that the Universe has no beginning or end. Galaxies move farther apart as space expands, but new matter is continuously created. This allows new stars and galaxies to form, so the Universe remains broadly the same on a large scale over time.
- Revise: Accepted Model
A former rival model in which the Universe has always existed, expands, and maintains a constant overall density through the continuous creation of matter.
- Revise: Theories and Red-shift

- Revise: CMB Radiation
A historical model in which the Universe expands but maintains the same overall appearance and average density over time.
