Specification 4.1.2.1 · Paper 1
The closeness of a measurement to the true value.
Paper 1, Paper 2
How close a measured result is to the true or accepted value.
Revise: Apparatus Selection, Accuracy and Risk AssessmentAccuracy can be reduced by problems such as an incorrect zero, poor calibration, parallax when reading a scale, or using a technique that does not measure the intended quantity properly.
Do not use “accurate” and “precise” as synonyms. Accuracy concerns closeness to the true or accepted value; precision concerns how closely repeated results agree.
Do not use “accurate” when you mean that repeated readings are close together. Close repeated readings show precision; accuracy concerns closeness to the true or accepted value.
For every suggested improvement, explain which problem it addresses and how it improves accuracy, precision, repeatability or reproducibility.
