Specification 4.1.2.1 · Paper 1
A quantity kept constant so that any change in the results can be attributed to the independent variable.
Specification 2.19, 10.21, 14.10 · Paper 1, Paper 2
A variable deliberately kept unchanged so that the effect of the independent variable can be investigated fairly.
A variable deliberately kept unchanged so that an investigation is a fair comparison.
Paper 1, Paper 2
A factor kept constant so that it does not offer another explanation for a change in the measured outcome.
Revise: Controlling Variables and SamplingThat is why you identify control variables before collecting data. For this pendulum, you could use the same bob and release it from the same small angle each time. You would also measure length in the same way for every trial.
Name the independent, dependent and control variables for the particular investigation described. Do not list material and thickness as independent variables if only one is being changed.
