Revise: Injuries in physical activity and sportAn abrasion is a scrape or graze caused when friction damages or removes the top layer of skin. Falling and sliding across a rough playing surface can graze a knee or elbow. Unlike a strain, an abrasion affects the skin rather than a muscle, although both belong to the broad category of soft tissue injuries.
