Used by AQA and OCR
Paper 1
A band of connective tissue that connects bone to bone and helps stabilise a joint.
Revise: Skeletal structureLigaments connect bone to bone and help hold the joint together. Tendons and ligaments therefore have different jobs: tendons transmit a muscle’s pull, while ligaments help stabilise the connection between bones.
A tough, flexible band of tissue connecting bone to bone and stabilising a joint.
Paper 1
Revise: Joint ComponentsThree types of connective tissue help meet these needs: ligaments provide stability, cartilage cushions the bone ends, and tendons transfer the pull of muscles to bones. Connective tissue is body tissue that joins, supports or protects other structures.
Distinguish tendons, which attach muscle to bone, from ligaments, which connect bone to bone.
Ligaments connect bone to bone; tendons connect muscle to bone.
Keep the attachments distinct: ligaments connect bone to bone; tendons connect muscle to bone.
