Specification A24, A25 · Paper 1, Paper 2, Paper 3
The result of subtracting each term from the term immediately after it.
Revise: Quadratic SequencesQuadratic sequences do not have a constant first difference. Instead, their second differences are constant.
In a quadratic sequence, align the differences carefully. Five terms give four first differences and three second differences.
A constant first difference indicates an arithmetic sequence. For a quadratic sequence, the first differences change but the second differences are constant.
Write first differences directly beneath the gaps between consecutive terms; place second differences beneath the gaps between first differences.
