Wind pump

Dry farming and wind pumps addressed the water problem in different ways. Dry farming conserved water already received as rain; a wind pump brought underground water to the surface. Drilling made underground supplies accessible, and the wind supplied the power needed to pump water upwards.

Deep drills and wind pumps helped farmers reach underground water and bring it to the surface. Wind supplied the power to operate the pump, providing water for people, livestock and crops where a suitable well could be established.
