Paper 1
Methods of cultivating land to conserve scarce moisture and grow crops in areas with little rainfall.
Paper 2
A method of preparing soil to conserve rainwater so crops can grow in areas with limited rainfall.
Revise: Development of SettlementA later adaptation was dry farming, developed by homesteader Hardy Webster Campbell in 1879, after this period. It involved preparing soil to conserve rainwater, helping crops such as wheat develop roots that could access moisture during periods of low rainfall. It reduced dependence on regular rain but could not overcome severe drought.
Dry farming developed by Hardy Webster Campbell in 1879 belongs to later farming developments, not the period c1862–c1876.
