Revise: The Catholic QuestionThe opposing groups became known as Whigs, who supported exclusion, and Tories, who opposed it. These were developing political groupings, not modern parties with the same organisation and policies as parties today. The importance here is that the Catholic succession gave them a powerful issue around which to organise.
