Revise: WarCharles changed direction again with the Treaty of Dover in 1670. Louis agreed to pay him £160,000 a year, while Charles agreed to supply troops. Secret provisions included Charles’s promise to announce his conversion to Catholicism when circumstances permitted, with French military assistance available against opposition.
Charles promised to announce a conversion to Catholicism in the secret Treaty of Dover; this was not a public conversion in 1670.
