Revise: Royal Dockyards, Chatham, 1567 to 1984During the 1620s, two roperies and a sail loft were added, together with another mast pond. Rope was essential for rigging, while sails supplied the power to move ships. Making and repairing these items on site helped the dockyard prepare vessels for service.
