Revise: BattlesLater saga accounts describe some Norwegian soldiers remaining with the ships and others leaving their mail armour behind because of the hot weather. These details suggest why the army might have been particularly vulnerable, but they are less secure than the basic fact of Harold’s surprise attack. The familiar story of a lone Norwegian warrior holding the bridge is also a later tradition, not a certain reconstruction of the battle.
- Revise: Settlement across the Atlantic
A narrative preserved through oral tradition and later written down, often describing Norse families, voyages and conflicts.
