Revise: Migration Before 1066 and the Norman ConquestThe Norman Conquest introduced a different pattern of migration: military conquest followed by settlement. After Edward the Confessor died in January 1066, Harold became king, but William, Duke of Normandy, claimed the throne. William was also attracted by England’s wealth, including income from land and taxation, which could reward his followers.
